Caption: Facial skull fractures fixation. Labelled artwork and post-surgery magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a frontal view of a skull where surgeons have carried out internal fixation of fractured facial bones including cranioplasty (skull reconstruction). The metal implants are plates, screws and titanium mesh. The bones fractured are the maxillary bones of the left cheek and the orbital bones of the left eye socket. Such fractures are typically caused by blunt force trauma. The metal implants fix and hold the broken bones in place, allowing them to heal in their correct alignments. Abdominal fat grafts (lower centre) are placed above and below the eye to repair dural defects.
