Caption: Close-up of the surface of a comet, computer artwork. A comet is a small, icy space rock. When passing close to the sun, solar wind and radiation will heat up the comet and cause it to expel gas, creating a sort of gaseous atmosphere around it and a trail in its wake. Comets can vary in diameter from a few metres to several kilometres.
