Caption: Single stranded DNA-binding protein (SSBP). Molecular model of a protein that binds to the single stranded DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) in human mitochondria. Mitochondria are energy-producing organelles found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. SSBP binding to the DNA prevents the single strands combining to form double-stranded DNA (reannealing) and therefore allows the DNA replication machinery to carry out its function.
