Caption: Brain haemorrhage. Computed tomography (CT) scan of a 45 year old man's skull (left) and brain (right), from above. This patient was injured in a road traffic accident. There is severe extradural haemorrhage (bleeding between the skull and the brain's protective layer of tissue, the dura mater), in pink. This is due to the depression fracture seen on the left side of the skull. Without urgent treatment, the bleed will put pressure on the brain and cause irreversible brain damage.
