Caption: Adam Sedgwick (1854-1913), British zoologist. Sedgwick was a great-nephew of the geologist Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873). The younger Sedgwick was educated at the University of Cambridge. He studied at Trinity College, where he became a fellow in 1880, lecturing in Animal Morphology from 1883 to 1907. He was appointed Professor of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy at the university from 1907 to 1909. He then took up the position of Professor of Zoology at Imperial College, London, from 1909 to his death. He had been elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1886. His works include articles for the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica.
