Caption: Engraving of Morell Mackenzie (1837-1892), British physician. Mackenzie pioneered laryngology, the study and treatment of disorders of the larynx (voicebox). In May 1887 he was summoned to Germany, where he declared that Crown Prince Frederick did not have cancer of the larynx. Mackenzie was knighted the same year, and awarded the Grand Cross of the Hohenzollern Order. However, the diagnosis was incorrect and Frederick died 99 days after becoming Emperor.
