Caption: US Civil War Union officers, rotogravure. At right is US Brigadier General Ely Samuel Parker (1828-1895). Parker, from the Seneca tribe, was one of only two Native Americans to rise to the rank of general during the US Civil War (1861-1865). The officers are part of the staff of Ulysses S.
