Caption: Anthropology research, 1950s. US anthropologist John Alden Mason (left, 1885-1967) with a man named Burt Bascow. Mason carried out research into indigenous peoples in North America. These included the Salinan people of California, and the Tepehuan people of north-western Mexico. He also studied the Piman languages of Arizona and northern Mexico. Photographed in 1951.
