Caption: Stem cell-derived neurons, light micrograph. Stem cells derived from urine have been cultivated and used to produce neurons, or nerve cells. Stem cells are cells that can differentiate into any other cell type, depending on the biochemical signals they receive from their environment. Chinese scientists have published a new method for producing stem cells from human urine and kidney cells. This method could provide an alternative to using embryonic stem cells.
