Caption: Lung cancer. Coloured frontal X-ray of the chest of a male patient with a Pancoast tumour (top left). This occurs when a malignant (cancerous) tumour invades the upper lobe (apex) of the lung. The tumour lies close to several important structures in the shoulder and neck, compression of which results in characteristic symptoms, collectively called Horner's syndrome: pupil constriction, lack of sweating, drooping of the eyelid, sunken eyeballs, pain and swelling in the arm, a hoarse voice and a bovine cough.
