Caption: Hepatomegaly. Coloured axial computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen of a patient with hepatomegaly, which is enlargement of the liver (red). Hepatomegaly can be caused by a variety of conditions. It is a symptom of liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, Epstein-Barr virus, anaemia, and cancer. Hepatomegaly will often cause jaundice (yellowing of the skin). Treatment is of the underlying cause, or by surgical removal of the liver (hepatectomy) if the organ is too damaged.
