Caption: Polyp of the gallbladder, light micrograph. Polyps are small growths arising from epithelial cells in the lining of body tissues. While most polyps are benign (non-cancerous), a small number can become malignant (cancerous) over time. No treatment is required for benign polyps. If a polyp is deemed likely to develop into a malignancy, treatment is by surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy). Magnification: x6 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
