Caption: Gianotti-Crosti syndrome on a child's buttocks. This is a characteristic response to certain viruses, such as hepatitis B, epstein barr virus, enteroviruses, echo viruses and respiratory syncytial virus. A red skin rash develops and lasts for several weeks, then fades with mild scarring. This reaction mainly occurs in children between six months and twelve years old. There is no specific treatment, but a topical steroid cream may be prescribed for itchiness.
