Caption: Stress fracture. 3D computed tomography (CT) scan and scintigram of a stress fracture (bright area at right) of the left tibia (shin bone). A stress fracture is a small crack in a bone resulting from a strong impact. It can also occur when bones are fatigued and less able to withstand shock. Treatment is by immobilisation for several weeks. This may be achieved with a plaster cast around the limb.
