Caption: Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) of the lumbar spine of a patient with spondylosis deformans. This condition results from intervertebral disc degeneration with age, which reduces the space between vertebrae. Degenerative osteoarthritis develops characterised by the formation of bony spurs at the margins of the vertebrae. These may cause stiffness, pain, and trapped nerves, with sensory and motor disturbances.
