Caption: Coloured X-ray showing chondrocalcinosis, or pseudogout, in the wrists. This disease is characterised by the presence of calcium phosphate crystals in joint cartilage, which cause inflammation, swelling, and reduced articulation. The red arrows indicate an area of articular pinching, and the yellow arrows indicate reduced joint space. Treatments include the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If these fail a corticosteroid drug may be injected into the affected joints. The underlying cause of pseudogout is unknown.
