Caption: Tissue microarray. Light micrograph (LM) of a section of a breast tissue microrray. Tissue microarrays consist of paraffin blocks in which up to 1000 separate tissue cores are assembled in array fashion to allow multiplex histological analysis. The major limitations in molecular clinical analysis of tissues include the cumbersome nature of procedures, limited availability of diagnostic reagents and limited patient sample size. The technique of tissue microarray was developed to address these issues. Here a small part of an array shows a variety of breast cancers and a control kidney sample (bottom right corner). Magnification: x80 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
