Caption: A celestial globe. This is a 3-dimensional map of the stars based on the notion that the stars lie on the surface of a vast sphere round the Earth. The artworks on the globe are the mythological representations of the constellations. This globe is an exhibit at the Nicolaus Copernicus House Museum, Torun, Poland. Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) was an astronomer, born in Torun, who developed a model of the universe that placed the Sun at its centre rather than the Earth.
