Caption: El Castillo Temple, Chichen Itza, Mexico. This step-pyramid was built by the Maya civilisation. It is a temple dedicated to the god Kukulcan. Its construction was planned so that during the spring equinox the setting sun casts a shadow of a snake writhing down the pyramid's steps. Chichen Itza is a pre-Columbian archaeological site found in the northern center of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
