Caption: Lobster moth caterpillars in threat display. The lobster moth (Stauropus fagi) is native to Northern hemisphere countries of the Old World, including the UK. The caterpillar has an unusual appearance, with an enlarged head, protrusions from the mid section and enlarged claspers at the rear. When threatened, the caterpillar arches its body and raises its forelimbs.
