Caption: Artwork of an autoantibody (blue) in the intestines. Antibodies have two arms that can bind to specific antigens (foreign proteins). In doing this they mark the antigen for destruction. Autoantibodies are antibodies that recognise the body's own cells or tissues, leading to the destruction of healthy tissue. Such intestinal autoimmune diseases include coeliac disease and crohn's disease.
