Caption: Quartz crystal and limonite mineral. This crystal includes so-called 'phantom structures' that show successive stages of growth. The orange mineral is limonite. It got deposited on the surface of the growing quartz crystals before they reached the present size. Black dots are small crystal clusters of the mineral goetite. This specimen, about 3 centimetres across, is from Morocco.
