Caption: Yelena Gagarina and Helen Sharman. Moscow Kremlin Museums director Yelena Gagarina (left, born 1959) and British astronaut Helen Sharman (right, born 1963) at the unveiling ceremony for a monument to Yelena's father Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968). This monument, located outside the British Council head office building in London, UK, was unveiled on 14 July 2011. It was later moved to a permanent location in Greenwich. Sharman had been the first British person in space, applying to Project Juno and spending seven days on the Mir space station in May 1991. The monument marked the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's 1961 spaceflight as the first human in space.
