Jonathan L. Hartwell (1906-1991), US cancer researcher. Hartwell joined the National Cancer Institute in the US as a research chemist. He pioneered chemical and biological investigations aimed at identifying new anticancer drugs. He produced the first major compilation of carcinogenic substances, and compiled 'Plants Used Against Cancer: A Survey' a thorough study of traditional uses of plants in cancer treatment.
