Caption: Glycobiology research. Print-out of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of Ribonuclease- B, an enzyme. One type of contour spectrum (called COSY) is overlaid over a second (NOSY) to determine the positions of atoms within the protein. These locations are often complicated by the folding & overlapping of different molecular sub-structures, so careful interpretation of a series of such plots is often required to determine the underlying structure. Photographed in the Glycobiology Unit at Oxford University, where research into the body's sugar chemistry and its relationship to disease is performed.
