Caption: Supernova remnant N132D, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. The shockwave from the supernova is causing the surrounding gas and dust (pink) to glow. The supernova occurred around 163,000 years ago, and was first visible from Earth 3000 years ago. This supernova remnant is 160,000 light years from Earth, in the Large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Dorado. Image obtained by Hubble's Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) and published on 9 September 2009, as part of the Hubble Servicing Mission 4 Early Release Observations (SM4 ERO).
