Caption: Light micrograph of a detail of Metaradiophrya sp. ciliate. This parasitic ciliate lives in the guts of earthworms. Contractile vacuoles at top and bottom of the picture. The worm-like structure in the middle shows the macronucleus of the ciliate. Note the micronucleus showing binary fission with completely formed spindle apparatus. Microscopic contrast method: Differential interference contrast. Magnification 650x when printed at 10 centimetres width.
