Caption: CDK-2 enzyme. Regulatory enzyme of the human cell cycle. Molecular graphics image of CDK-2 (cyclin-dependent kinase-2), an enzyme that acts as a crucial regulator of the timing and coordination of events within eukaryotic cells, those cells with a true nucleus. The activation of CDKs at specific cell cycle stages is believed to trigger the major changes of the cell cycle, notably the "Start" (when the cell becomes committed to a new division cycle) & the beginning of mitosis. Their transient activation requires binding to cyclins, a family of proteins whose levels vary throughout the cell cycle. Labelled version showing alpha helices & beta sheets.
