Caption: Illustration of a woman's abdomen showing an inflamed bladder (highlighted in red) caused by cystitis. This is a relatively frequent ailment in women. It may be caused by a malformation of the urinary track or by diabetes. Often, too, germs travel from the vagina to the urethra during sexual intercourse. Those germs most often identified are bacilli of the escherichia coli or proteus mirabilis types. Symptoms are frequent urinating attended by a burning sensation. Once the germ has been identified, it may be treated by an appropriate antibiotic. The picture shown here symbolizes inflammation of the bladder.
