Caption: Close up of the right foot of a 'flat-footed' 50-year-old African- American man, also showing a nevus birthmark. Flat feet (also called pes planus or fallen arches) is a formal reference to a medical condition in which the arch of the foot collapses, with the entire sole of the foot coming into complete or near-complete contact with the ground, and being less efficient in performance. Melanocytic nevus (nevomelanocytic nevus, nevocellular nevus) is a benign proliferation of melanocytes, the skin cells that make the brown pigment melanin. Hence, most nevi are brown to black. They are very common; almost all adults have at least one.
