NSLS II particle accelerator construction. When completed in 2015, this will be the world's leading storage-ring-based synchrotron light source. Synchrotron radiation is emitted by accelerating electrons in storage rings. The radiation produced allows the characterization of the atomic and electronic structure, chemical composition, and magnetic properties of materials in a wide range of temperatures and environments.
