Caption: CDK-2 enzyme. Molecular ribbon graphic of the Cyclin-Dependent Kinase-2 (CDK2) enzyme which partly regulates the life cycle of human cells. CDK2 regulates the timing & coordination of events within cells with a true nucleus (eukaryotic cells). The activation of CDK enzymes at specific cell cycle stages is believed to trigger the major changes of the cell cycle, notably when the cell becomes committed to a new division cycle (the "Start" phase) & the beginning of cell division (mitosis). Their transient activation requires binding to cyclins, a family of proteins whose levels vary throughout the cell cycle.
