Caption: Sun observed at different wavelengths. Collage of solar images from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). Observing the Sun in different wavelengths helps highlight different aspects of the sun's surface and atmosphere. The wavelengths in nanometres (nm) from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) are: 450nm (light green), 170nm (pink), 160nm (dark green), 33.5nm (blue), 30.4nm (orange), 21.1nm (violet), 19.3nm (bronze), 17.1nm (gold), 13.1nm (aqua) and 9.4nm (bright green). From the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) are visible light at 617.3nm (orange/yellow), and dopplergram and magnetogram observations (both grey). For a key for the colours, see C022/3724.
