Caption: Retina, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The retina is the light-sensitive tissue that lines the inside of the eye. Light enters the retina at left and passes through a layer of tissue containing blood vessels and nerves (left) before reaching the photosensitive layer (right). There are two types of light sensitive cell; rods aid vision in dim light and cones allow colour vision. At far right is the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), which prevent light passing out of they eye.
