Caption: Ovarian cancer. Light micrograph (LM) of a section of a granulosa cell tumour of the ovary. Granulosa cell tumor (GCT) is an uncommon cancer arising from granulosa cell tissue, a hormonally active component of the ovarian tissue that is responsible for estradiol (female sex hormone) production. Call-Exner bodies are visible (pale pink); these are fluid-filled spaces amongst the granulosa cells, and are characteristic of these tumours. Granulosa cell tumours of the ovary are considered as low grade malignancies with a relatively more favourable prognosis compared with much more commonly encountered epithelial ovarian tumours. Magnification: x1200 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue, HES stain.
