Out-of-body experience, conceptual image. This state is sometimes reported by those near death. Some experience the sensation that they are walking around outside their bodies, a condition known as autoscopy. The condition has been identified with a particular brain region, and is thought to be caused by the body failing to integrate sensory data such as that provided by touch and vision. Other phenomena include detachment from the body, a sense of levitation, extreme serenity and the experience of absolute dissolution.
