Caption: Intestinal hamartoma. Light micrograph of a section through a polypoid hamartoma in the colon (large intestine). A hamartoma is a benign (non-cancerous) malformation that resembles a tumour, but is made up of tissue components normally found at that site but growing in a disorganised mass. They often present no symptoms and are not detected unless seen on an image taken for some other reason.
