Caption: Survivor Tree, 11 September 2001 memorial. This Callery pear tree (Pyrus calleryana) was badly damaged in the 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC). It was removed to a tree nursery and cared for, surviving and resuming new growth. It was replanted at the official memorial site (the National September 11 Memorial) in December 2010. Photographed in July 2012.
