Caption: Caterpillar of the Bamboo Butterfly, latin name Eryphanis polyxena, a butterfly in the Nymphalidae family, indigenous to Central and South America. The caterpillar resembles the bamboo leaves upon which it feeds, notably when it positions itself along a leaf or stem. It remains in this position during daytime, making it nearly impossible to see for potential predators, and feeds only during the night, like most caterpillars do.
