Caption: Titanite. Titanite, or sphene, is a calcium titanium nesosilicate mineral (CaTiSiO5). It occurs as translucent to transparent, reddish brown, grey, yellow, green, or red monoclinic crystals. Trace impurities of iron and aluminium are often present. Titanite is a source of titanium dioxide, used in pigments.
