Caption: Natron. Natron is a mix of various sodium salts, mainly sodium carbonate decahydrate (soda ash) and sodium bicarbonate. It forms in saline lake beds in arid areas. It was used in antiquity in soap, antiseptics, mouthwash, mummification, for preserving food, in ceramic and glass making, in pigments, and many other areas.
