Caption: Minium. Minium is lead oxide (rust). It forms by oxidation of primary lead ores, such as galena (lead sulphide) and is almost always powdery with a yellowish red colour. Minium is used as a pigment in paints and dyes, but health concerns about lead have reduced this use.
