Caption: Black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), night vision footage. This is the largest species of caiman in the Amazon. Adults can exceed 5 metres in length. It mostly hunts its prey at night. Night vision footage can be obtained using image intensifiers, active illumination, and thermal imaging. This footage was obtained in the Kaw Marshes of French Guiana.
