Caption: Male erection. Time-lapse thermographic footage of a man's penis becoming erect. During male sexual arousal, the testicles produce androgen hormones. This promotes blood flow into the corpora cavernosa tissue of the penis, resulting in an erection. A thermogram shows variation in temperature on the surface of an object, measured by the long-wave infrared radiation it emits. The temperature scale is colour-coded from black (cold) through blue, green and yellow to red and white (hottest). This thermogram footage shows that the penis is warmer than the rest of the body, and the head (glans) of the penis gets warmer. In contrast, the testicles are colder.
