Caption: Reduction of copper (II) oxide using carbon. Clip 4 of 6. This clip shows the results of a reaction between copper (II) oxide (CuO) and carbon (C) after being heated in a glass tube. The reaction reduces the oxide to copper metal (Cu), with the other product being carbon dioxide (CO2). The oxide and carbon are black, while the copper metal has a reddish-orange colour. For the full sequence, see clips K004/5556 to K004/5551.
