Caption: Glomerulonephritis. Light micrograph of a section through a glomerulus in tissue from a kidney affected by glomerulonephritis. Glomerulonephritis is the inflammation either of the glomeruli or small blood vessels in the kidneys. Here it is caused by cryoglobulinaemia, a condition characterised by blood that contains large amounts of cryoglobulins - proteins that become insoluble at room temperatures. Magnification: x1100, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
