Caption: AMELIA hybrid aircraft. Illustration of AMELIA (Advanced Model for Extreme Lift and Improved Aeroacoustics), a possible future hybrid wing subsonic vehicle with short takeoff and landing capabilities and reduced noise pollution. The design was funded by a NASA Research Agreement with the California Polytechnic State Institute (Cal Poly). Other research partners include Georgia Tech Research Institute, DHC Engineering, and Paterson Labs. A model of this configuration was tested in a NASA wind tunnel in 2011. AMELIA is part of the part of the Fundamental Aeronautics Program operated by NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate.
