Caption: Sand dunes on Mars. Satellite image of a sand dunes in a large crater near Mawrth Vallis on Mars. For dune fields, the spacing of individual dunes is a function of sand supply, wind speed, and topography. This image, published in 2014, was obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) instrument on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) satellite.
