Caption: Galaxy cluster RX J1532. Composite image of galaxy cluster RX J1532.9+3021, combining data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory (hot gas, purple) and optical data from the Hubble Space Telescope (galaxies, yellow). Supersonic jets from a central supermassive black hole have created expanding cavities (about 100,000 light years across) in the hot gas. The energy forming the cavities keeps the hot gas from cooling and forming trillions of new stars. This galaxy cluster is 3.9 billion light years distant in the constellation of Corona Borealis. Optical data from the Cluster Lensing and Supernova with Hubble (CLASH) survey. Image published in 2014.
