Caption: Wounded soldier, 1865. Side profile view of Ludwig Kohn, a soldier wounded at the battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. The gunshot entered the front of his chest and exited below his right shoulder blade, as indicated by the arrow. Part of a series of photographs and cases intended, at the behest of Surgeon General William Hammond, for publication in Medical and Surgical History of the War of the Rebellion (1870-1888).
